6,500 State Police officers from the grassroots level to its highest structures have been trained for about a month on how to proceed with electoral crimes and how to guarantee order during the May 11 process.
The details were revealed to A2 CNN by Agron Çeli, who holds the position of Director of Public Order at the State Police. Çeli said that 6,500 police officers will be engaged in the field to maintain order and security, while we are currently in the second phase, that of the election campaign.
"For several months, the state police has been engaged in training the persons who will participate in this electoral process. In implementation of the obligations and legal responsibilities of the State Police to guarantee a regular electoral process, we have drafted a work program that has reached the local directorates at the base. Trainings have been conducted in cooperation with SPAK, OSCE, CEC and the General Prosecutor's Office. The trainings have been organized according to levels and have started in February, ending in March for 6,500 police officers from various structures who have been trained. 1,500 police officers from the Criminal Investigation Structures have also been trained, who have undergone separate training in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Offices of the Courts of General Jurisdiction in all local directorates. Police officers have received general knowledge about the protection of facilities as well as about the engagement during the electoral campaign for electoral activities and obligations until the end of the vote counting", explained Çeli.
Asked by A2 CNN journalist Xhensila Kodra whether any cases of electoral crimes have been identified so far, Çeli admitted that some of them have been handled by the police and the structure set up by SPAK, the CEC and the General Prosecutor's Office.
"According to the provisions of the Criminal Code for electoral crimes, we, in cooperation with SPAK and the District Prosecutors' Offices, are implementing them every day in all local police structures. There have been cases. In all cases, the structures have been notified and every illegality that has been identified on the ground has been dealt with. We are now in the second phase, in the election campaign phase, and we are every day guaranteeing order and security in the electoral activities of political entities," he declared. (A2 Televizion)
