Italy will send another 30 migrants to the Gjadra camp, more than a month after the last transfer, which took place on April 11. Neighboring media reports that the Italian navy ship “Spica” is sailing from Brindisi to the port of Shëngjin. The ship “Spica” with about 30 migrants departed from the port of Brindisi on Tuesday morning, bound for the repatriation detention center in Gjadra.
The Gjadri camp currently houses around 50 people. According to the Italian Interior Ministry, 30 migrants have already been repatriated from the Albanian reception center.
Meanwhile, the decision of the judges of the European Court of Justice is expected in the coming days. They have been called to examine the preliminary appeals filed by the Court of Rome, which has so far not recognized the legitimacy of the arrests ordered against migrants rescued in the Mediterranean and transferred to the other side of the Adriatic, because they come from countries that the Italian government considers safe, in particular Egypt and Bangladesh.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi has already clarified that only people at particular risk have been transferred to Gjadra.
" It is not true that we send there immigrants who are guilty only of being in Italy illegally, that is not the case. We have repatriated people who were being released from prison for several years for serious crimes, including rape, child pornography and so on, " explained Piantedosi while commenting on the fourth transfer of illegal aliens on Italian territory to the Albanian center to await deportation.
" So we limit only people who pose a social risk to these centers. The center will provide a very important functionality and we are waiting, in the coming months, for the decision of the European Court of Justice and the European rules on this matter in June 2026, to be able to use the rest of the structure as well ," added the Italian Interior Minister.
