The National Food Authority has reacted to news published in the media that pork with salmonella was being sold in secret. In a statement distributed to the media, this institution calls this news untrue and explains that it concerns 4,516.75 kg of pork fillets, which were blocked on January 28, 2025 after laboratory tests found contamination with salmonella spp.
According to the AKU, the quantity of meat remained blocked in the importing entity's warehouses until April 16, when the company officially requested its destruction from the competent authorities, including the National Inspectorate of Territorial Protection, the Tirana Regional Tax Directorate and the AKU Tirana Regional Directorate.
The AKU assures "consumers that the quantity of 4516.75 kg of pork fillet has been destroyed in the presence of all representatives of the aforementioned competent authorities" and says that "it is fully prepared to guarantee food safety, in the protection of consumer health." (A2 Televizion)
