As announced at the beginning of the electoral campaign for the May 11 elections, that this summer will be the end of one of the longest infrastructure calvarys, the Qukës-Qafë Plloçë axis, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku, confirmed it again today as she inspected the works of this infrastructure project.
"By this summer, we want Qukës-Qafë Plloça to be surrendered, for this reason I have spoken with the supervisor and asked him to stay on top of something that is the final solution," she emphasized, according to A2 CNN.
According to Balluku, the works are in the final phase, as over 85% of the works have been completed in all three lots of this strategic road, while he requested that two more shifts be worked on to complete it.
"Despite the geological difficulties, the works in all three phases of this construction site for the construction of the Qukës-Qafë Plloçë road are going well, with over 85% of the works in all three lots currently being completed. The construction site is going very well. Here we are in the heights of the area and in winter the construction site does not operate due to the weather. Even now in May, it is cold here. Therefore, currently, this investment is being worked on in two shifts and with maximum commitment with the aim of making this road operational within this year," said Balluku, writes A2 CNN.
She requested from the contractors that, in addition to the intensive work on the construction site of this axis for the continuity of the implementation of this work within the deadlines, in parallel, increased attention be paid to safety conditions at work.
"The creation of two operational shifts that should start early in the morning and end late in the evening, of course meeting all safety conditions at work, which is very important," she emphasized.
Three contracting companies, 150 workers and over 90 heavy vehicles are engaged in the construction of this axis. The road is considered key for the connection between Corridor 8 and the southeastern part of the country, significantly improving the connection between Tirana and Korça, as well as facilitating traffic towards the Kapshtica border crossing.
