The Head of the General Prosecutor's Office, Olsian Çela, says that the investigation of electoral crimes is being closely cooperated with SPAK.
Çela does not deny the pressures on prosecutors, but guarantees that as the elections approach, their number will increase to respond to any need that may arise.
"There are a number of cases that are being verified at the reporting stage, or that criminal proceedings have been registered. There is also a positive interaction between the Special Prosecutor's Office and the prosecutor's offices of the judicial districts regarding the exchange of information and the real-time launch of investigations and materials for competence, where there are issues that are discussed in relation to those that are the subject matter competence of the Special Prosecutor's Office or prosecutors of general jurisdiction.
To further expand this cooperation, we have also provided infrastructure support to the Special Prosecution Office so that the Bureau's prosecutors and investigators have space in the buildings of the general jurisdiction prosecutor's offices so that they can carry out their activities throughout the election period, until the end of the electoral process.
Certainly, the nature of the cases handled by prosecutors of general jurisdiction makes it less likely that they will face external pressure, however, our work is such that it makes it possible to face pressures. It is a job under pressure. It is important that we have the right mechanisms to ensure that prosecutors work under pressure and be effective. Today, the entire legal framework provides protection for prosecutors to exercise their duties even under pressure. Of course, there is also a need for the functioning of all mechanisms for the protection of all prosecutors, institutional mechanisms.
As election day approaches, given that there may be an increase in problems and complaints, it is anticipated that the number of prosecutors on standby lists will increase. And 1 week before election day, we draft standby lists where there is a considerably higher number of prosecutors ready to respond to any eventuality related to the election situation. (A2 Televizion)
