The older age of women when they decide to become a mother is increasing the incidence of premature births. One in 10 babies in Albania are born prematurely. Stress, diabetes and hemorrhages in mothers are the main causes that lead to termination of pregnancy.
Due to high blood pressure, Romina Kukës had to terminate her pregnancy in the 28th week, when she was only in the seventh month. At that time, her son weighed only 1 kilogram. He gained the right weight and weeks during his stay in the incubator at the "Queen Geraldine" maternity hospital. Today she is happy that her son is healthy and energetic.
Although the incidence of premature births is high, the mortality rate has decreased. According to doctors, this is dedicated to their professional training, investment in equipment and medications. On the World Day of Prematurity, the Minister of Health promised financial support for doctors and investments for modern conditions and equipment.
