The increase in tourists and new export markets, along with long-standing supply problems, doubled revenues for water bottling companies last year.
Data from the National Business Center show that the eight largest companies had over 8.2 billion ALL, or about 80.7 million euros in revenue during 2022.
The data shows that from year to year, the drinking water business is proving successful, especially after the pandemic period during which it took the biggest hit as a result of the closing of the markets.
In relation to 2020, revenues have increased by ALL 4.8 billion.
The water business is profitable even after removing all the costs on the companies. Last year, the eight largest companies earned almost 1.5 billion ALL, with the current exchange rate over 14 million euros.
During 2022, company profits have increased by 245 percent compared to 2019 and 178 percent compared to 2021.
Based on the data of the Water Regulatory Body and the figures reported to the National Business Center, an Albanian spends approximately 60 Lek per day, 1,800 Lek per month or 21,600 Lek per year for drinking water.
This year's tourist numbers, as well as customs data on exports, warn of satisfactory profits for water companies in 2023 as well. (A2 Televizion)
