From "no traces of the earthquake" to "everyone in new houses", sometimes with deadlines "in the spring" or "not further than autumn"... four years later, the pledges are showing that they need some more time and many billions of lek to be called retained.
The Ministry of Finance and Economy has provided 7 billion lek, with the current exchange rate around another 68.6 million euros for 2024, to complete the reconstruction process after the earthquake of November 26, 2019.
There are at least 18 buildings in which the reconstruction must be completed, while in 36 others the reconstruction must be completed. Meanwhile, there are also four educational facilities in the process of reconstruction.
The data show that from 2020 until now, 90.5 billion lek, or almost 900 million euros, have come out of the state budget for reconstruction and rent payments for those who lost their homes.
The high amount was forced to come out of the state budget as a good part of the funds promised at the "Donors' Conference" could not be received.
But, despite the availability of the state coffers, the reconstruction is proceeding at a slower pace than expected. The data from the "finances" show that in the period of January-October, 9 billion expenses were planned for the reconstruction, but only 5.4 billion or 60 percent of the available amount was used.
Meanwhile, the reconstruction process is expected to be fully completed by the end of next year. (A2 Televizion)
