Media in Germany have revealed new details about the accident that occurred in the early hours of the morning in the city of Koblenz, where three Albanian citizens died.

According to German authorities, six other passengers in the vehicle, which turns out to be a nine-seater minibus, were injured and taken to local hospitals, where they are receiving medical attention.

A fire department spokesman told DPA that a 53-year-old man and two women aged 47 and 65 died in the accident. The other six people were between the ages of 20 and 66 and were not seriously injured.

Authorities have further explained that the group of 9 people were returning from a family holiday in the state of Hesse when the accident occurred in the early hours of the morning.

" There are no indications that the 22-year-old driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs ," police said, urging the public not to get involved in speculation. " It is a very, very terrible accident ," a Koblenz police spokesman added.

The cause of the accident is still unclear and the identities of some of the people in the minibus have not yet been confirmed, but initial findings indicated that the minibus had left the A48 motorway and overturned.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. " The highway reopened this morning after being closed for more than four hours ," a traffic police spokeswoman said.

The A48 motorway had previously been completely closed between the Koblenz and Ochtendung junctions while restoration work was carried out. Traffic was diverted via the A61.
