A 46-year-old man was found hanged in room number 8 of the security block, where he had been escorted, after officers from police station number 3 had detained him on suspicion of theft. According to police, the incident occurred at around 1:20 a.m.
The victim was identified as Donald Greku, originally from Berat but residing in Tirana. The 46-year-old was found hanging himself with a piece of clothing (part of a tutash) in the window net of the room. The police officer immediately intervened, asking for help from other officers. One of them, according to the police, cut the clothing with which he had hanged himself and immediately called the emergency services. Officially, the police stated that 30 minutes before the Greek was found hanging, around 00:50, the service employee performed a routine check and the detainee did not show any problems or concerns, writes A2 CNN.
The 46-year-old was arrested as a suspect in at least 20 thefts of wallets and cell phones in the urban areas of the capital. After being arrested, he declared that he was a user of narcotics, of the heroin type. However, after visiting the toxicology service, the doctors had not determined a methadone dose, since from contact with the "Aksion Plus" center, it was confirmed that he was not registered as a user of this medication.
While the medical recommendation issued by the security block doctor included the sedative Xanax, which was given to the 46-year-old according to the recommendation.
The investigation into the serious incident will also be followed by the Police Supervision Agency, to determine whether or not the appropriate actions were taken by the police officers. (A2 Televizion)
