Allies of the Democratic Party, represented by the head of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, have presented their proposal for the creation of an opposition federation, which aims to express the unified opinion of the minority in Parliament, on Friday morning.
The initiator Mediu emphasized that the opposition, only united, can change the political reality in Albania.
The DP allies proposed the institutionalization of the opposition federation under the motto "Even though we are different, we have a common goal, a European Albania."
The opposition federation is expected to have a name, a political program and a logo.
As the initiators announced, with this initiative, the aim is for the united opposition to have institutional cooperation with diaspora organizations, to mandate a group of deputies who will be representatives for relations and discussions with international partners, as well as to hold parliamentary meetings with all opposition legislators who have emerged from the 2021 elections.
The allies of the DP also emphasized that their goal is for the opposition to come up with a unified position on the Electoral Reform, before moving on to discussions with the socialist majority.
Asked if they had consulted with Sali Berisha and Lulzim Basha in advance, they said that they have been making their proposals for days already in the television studios and that "for sure they have heard their proposals.
"We hope that they will call to reason," added Agron Duka.
The leaders of the small opposition parties emphasized that their initiative does not aim at dividing or determining who leads the Democratic Party, but that their main objective is for the minority in Parliament to come up with unified positions on Electoral Reform, Parliamentary Commissions or even in relations with the diaspora and internationals.
