In a meeting with supporters of the Democratic Party in Elbasan, Sali Berisha confessed that one of the reasons why he was declared non grata by the American administration was because in 2021 he refused to accept a proposal for a joint coalition between PD and SP.
According to Berisha, if this happened, then the country would be in trouble.
"Three days before the elections, his and Edi Rama's envoy comes to me and asks me; Mr. Berisha, if these elections were not won, what do you think about the grand coalition? What do I say? He says that DP and SP should form a coalition. I say no, I cannot agree with such a thing because it is a disaster for the country. If the two parties create a coalition, they steal it together and destroy it, leaving nothing behind.
He tells me, well, you don't want it, but if it happens, what will you do? If it does, I will do what I can against it. I will never agree with him. And this reason was the real reason for declaring Sali Berisha non grata. Because if I were to accept, we would have an opposition under his control, co-governing, drinking the blood of twice as many citizens of Elbasan and Albania and an unprecedented savage rule", said Berisha.
