The Tirana Municipal Council approved a series of decisions this Thursday, including the one regarding the transfer of responsibility for the Palace of Congresses to the government, as the building will undergo reconstruction, reports A2 CNN.
The approval of these decisions was accompanied by debate. Opposition councilor Ilir Alimehmeti asked whether a new tower would be built within the building's territory, but the acting mayor, Anuela Ristani, said she had no information regarding this.
"You said the same about the field around the Selman Stërmasi stadium, so we have the right to doubt it," said Democratic advisor Dorian Teliti.
The opposition councilors also demanded that the issue of the mayor, Erion Veliaj, be included on the agenda, for whom they said the Council of Ministers should be asked to dismiss him. “Veliaj is no longer a person under investigation, but a defendant,” said Teliti.
The opposition also demanded that the Municipal Council take a stand on Prime Minister Rama's request for the removal of all directors and deputy mayors of the municipality. "We received an e-mail from Mrs. (Joleza, a member of the SP in the Municipal Council) Koka, where she expressed her concern about Palestine. But don't say a word about the occupation that Edi Rama has made of the Municipality of Tirana, violating the law on local autonomy," said another opposition councilor, Ilda Zhulali. (A2 Televizion)
