Prime Minister Edi Rama has once again criticized the Special Prosecution Office for the arrest of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj.
Rama made the comments in the Sy m'Sy column on his Facebook page, where he said that in the Veliaj case, a man's life was destroyed due to the professional stupidity of SPAK prosecutors.
The Prime Minister also said that SPAK has both positive and negative sides and, according to him, this structure should be independent and meet European and professional standards.
The chief executive added that SPAK cannot investigate using State Security methods, implying that Mayor Veliaj was investigated in such a manner.
"SPAK has negative things, but also positive things. When a person's life is destroyed due to professional stupidity, it is excessive. It cannot be investigated with State Security methods, we aim to have independent justice and European standards. I hope it is a momentary aberration and that the surveillance in the territory stops.
"We cannot return to dark times, when anyone involved in politics was under surveillance. Justice must be strongly supported, so that it can do its job. Everyone is in their own business, we have our own work and we should not interfere with each other. But, we must all fight for professional justice," Rama said, writes A2 CNN. (A2 Televizion)
