At Friday's press conference, Democratic Leader Sali Berisha, in addition to defending SPAK in the face of Prime Minister Edi Rama's attacks, also focused on denouncing the character Nesti Angoni, who led Erion Veliaj behind bars.
According to the opposition leader, behind the name of the whistleblower is the former head of the Operational Unit, Oltion Bistri, who is in Fier prison.
"Edi Rama prepared the arrest. Now we come to Nesti Angoni. The letter came from the Fier prison. Bistri is in the Fier prison, as you know. But Bistri was not investigated. I am sorry that the media passed Bistri over in a very superficial way. But Bistri was a supermafia, Rama's most trusted, because Bistri had set up the system of recording other officials, outside the procedures. He had set up a special wiretapping system and it was discovered. And in Angoni's letter there is clear data of recording the phones of Erion Veliaj and his wife, but not only his wife, but also his collaborators, from Bistri", said Berisha.
Further, the DP leader claims that Prime Minister Rama is "preparing a pit" for the mayor of Tirana. But Berisha says that the plan was for Veliaj to end up under house arrest and not behind bars.
"It didn't occur to him that the prosecutor and the judge, with what they themselves served, the opposition didn't serve them, they close our files, they don't ask at all. What the government presented sank Erion Veliaj. Did Edi Rama want him in prison where he is today? No, because he sees himself. Rama has understood that this file that I have here, which has hundreds... hundreds of invoices, is ten times more voluminous for Rama and Ramica. Rama has understood that with Veliaj he dug a hole for himself", declared Berisha. (A2 Televizion)
