Another central area of Tirana, well-known to citizens as the Circus area, is expected to be revitalized, thanks to a contemporary project that will be selected from an international competition of 6 architecture studios, of which 5 are new to the Albanian public.
In the presence of Prime Minister Edi Rama, projects are being presented by representatives of the studios, namely: COBE, Denmark; GO HASEGAWA & Associates, Japan; GROUPWORK, Great Britain; L'AUC, France; NIETO SOBEJANO, Spain; ARCHEA Associati, Italy, where at the end the winning project will be announced.
At the start of the presentations, Prime Minister Rama addressed the attendees with a greeting, saying, among other things, that Tirana is the 'locomotive' of an epochal transformation.
Excerpt from Rama's speech:
Within a very short period of time, we return here for another international competition, this time a competition organized by the subject itself in the sense of a request to make a very important development in the center of Tirana and as we have done on other occasions, on our part, we have requested that this development be subject to the competition and so we are here, together with a jury, whose prestige comes from the presence of some truly extraordinary architects who are not simply invited from abroad, but are also protagonists of important transformations of the country in the field of urban development with their projects.
I would also like to thank the jury members who accepted the invitation to help us make the most informed judgment, and I would also like to thank all the studios that applied. There were a considerable number of studios that applied and I would definitely like to wish success to the studios present here who have been selected for this final phase.
It is another important stone that we intend to lay on the new path of the country, a path where Tirana is the "locomotive" of an epochal transformation, thanks to precisely these developments that have included an extraordinary number of international architects and that have created an extraordinary space for local architects, for all the girls and boys who are passionate about architecture and who practice this profession, to actually live in a country that today is an open "university" and that, thanks not only to these competitions, but also to partnerships with major international studios, can benefit from very valuable knowledge, a knowledge through interaction with very prominent professionals in this field of endless possibilities and imaginations.
I don't want to go on any longer.
I would like to once again wish success to all the studios involved and at the same time hope that, as has fortunately happened to us so far, the jury makes the right choice.
Thank you very much!
