During his visit to Israel, Prime Minister Edi Rama was awarded the Presidential Medal of Honor by President Isaac Herzog. According to the Israeli President, this is an honor for the example that Albanians set to the world by not surrendering a single Jew during World War II, as well as for religious and ethnic tolerance.
"The Albanian code of loyalty, the sacred oath of honor, protection and integrity feels very present in this hall. With courage they gave shelter to Jewish women and men who were fleeing from other parts of Europe and in doing so, they helped protect and preserve humanity in the face of the greatest crimes among human beings," said Isaac Herzog.
After thanking for the appreciation, Prime Minister Rama recalled the history of the protection of Jews during the Nazi occupation.
"This extraordinary honor cannot be for me alone, but I accept it on behalf of Albania, on behalf of the Albanian people, and above all, on behalf of all Muslim and Christian Albanians, who put themselves and their lives at risk during the darkest hours of modern history and turned my country into the only country in Europe that ended World War II with more Jews than at its beginning," said Edi Rama.
President Herzog spoke about continuing cooperation between the two countries as well as peace in the Middle East.
"The vision of our partnership and friendship goes beyond just two nations. It embodies the model of partnership between ethnicities and religious beliefs, which is why we have with us today such important religious leaders who can help transform the Eastern Mediterranean from a region of conflict, into a corridor of cooperation and connectivity, and into a tolerant model of peace for the Middle East," the President of Israel underlined.
The Prime Minister of Albania was harsher in his reaction, stating that peace with Hamas is not the solution to the conflict.
"Albania has always been supportive of the two-state solution, but in my view and in our view, there is no solution with Hamas there and unlike what others have tried to say, Hamas is not a resistance movement. Hamas are the Nazis of the new century. History has taught us that there is no peace with Nazis, there is no compromise with Nazis," Rama stressed.
During his visit to Israel, Prime Minister Rama saw firsthand the operation of the SHEBA hospital center with artificial intelligence. A practice that is expected to be established at the QSUT by the Israelis. (A2 Televizion)
