The intra-party competition turned out to be strongest in the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party, during the process of counting envelopes with Diaspora votes, within the framework of the May 11 elections.
The votes from abroad served for two sensational overthrows. One in the blue camp, where Isuf Çelaj snatched the mandate from Shkëlqim Shehu in the Kukës district. The other in the pink camp, where Olta Xhaçka with 140 votes took the mandate from her colleague Blerina Gjylameti.
The race between the two socialist ladies in the Tirana district was fierce, but in the end, former minister Xhaçka received 6,213 votes, while Gjylameti received 6,085 votes.
After failing to become part of the new Parliament, Gjylameti reacted through a post on social media, stating that he does not fight small wars, but " big battles for people's lives, not for himself ."
" In this race there are no losers — there are only winners. And I believe this with all my heart. We have all gained continuity on the path to a European future. Our battle continues. For the commitments that this political force has made ," Gjylameti further writes.
We recall that after losing her mandate, Gjylameti made a request to the CEC on Monday requesting video footage of the vote counting in the entire Tirana district. This request, made by her and other socialist colleagues, also brought the reaction of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who has asked in the form of advice not to follow this path.
BLERINA GJYLAMET'S REACTION:
I have a big hug for each of you — and there are quite a few of you, 6148 hearts! All of you who trusted me with the most precious thing a citizen has: the vote.
Wherever you were — in Unit 4, throughout the Tirana district, and above all those of you who voted from the diaspora — I want to say thank you.
Every vote, every expression of faith, is a precious stone in the foundation of a better Albania.
There are no losers in this race — there are only winners. And I believe that with all my heart.
We have all gained continuity on the path towards a European future.
I have personally won your hearts, your respect, your support, and for that I am deeply grateful.
May 11th for me was a victory of a different kind: a valuable experience, a challenging competition, and a result that fills me with pride.
Thank you to each of you.
Thank you to my tireless team, my patient family, and especially Prime Minister Edi Rama, for your trust and support.
Especially in these tiring and challenging days, filled with emotions, we – better than anyone else – understand how difficult it is to keep a large family like the Socialist Party together.
Our battle continues. For the commitments that this political force has made.
We don't fight small wars — we fight big battles for people's lives, not for our own.
Grateful.
These elections, this race, have given me full awareness of why I am in politics, why I am in the Socialist Party, and the deep conviction that the Socialist Party is the force that the country needs at this historical moment.
The elections are over.
The sovereign spoke.
Politics for the people continues. (A2 Televizion)
