Leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, announced at a press conference at the Blue headquarters that the list of DP candidates for MPs will also include figures representing Albanians in the diaspora.
"The diaspora will have names on the list. Whether there will be names on the safe list or not, I cannot say, because the safe list has not been completed. There is a moment when we must be realistic. A major force that intervenes in the safe list is the coalition. The coalition represents, I say once again, a minimum of 26% of the voters of Albania. It is possible to have more, but never less. Then, without a doubt, this coalition with almost 1/3 of the voters will have representation on the closed lists. And this, then, gives the closed list a more special character. More or less, that is it. 8 seats are for the allies, because the allies in the electoral record have a minimum of 26% of the voters in Albania", said Berisha.
Further, the opposition leader explained that the DP membership had the say on the candidacies, through the Primary Scheme.
"As you have seen, the candidacies were discussed by the DP membership in the primaries organized under the direct responsibility of the district leader. This is the truth. No district leader had any interference from Sali Berisha or anyone else, but he was the all-powerful leader of the primaries process based on certain criteria. So, the lists were more or less made by the members, the proposals," declared the DP leader.
Berisha further said that so far there is no list of candidates, but it will have broad representation of communities in each region.
"Of course, I have emphasized, there will be these modifications: women, it is a statutory definition. Young people, it is a statutory definition. And I say here, representations, since we are regional, sometimes of communities, that for one reason or another do not have the right position but that deserve representation. They cannot remain without representation. Large communities, because the region creates these. So, there will be very easy corrections. There will be corrections, of course, this cannot be discussed, for these reasons that I said. But, on the other hand, the DP lists have been made by the membership. The heads of the regions will be there, they will give their opinions. The Presidency will decide. There is absolutely no list of any region discussed or finalized to date, except for those that the membership itself has made", explained the democratic leader. (A2 Televizion)
