The "fever" of the list has gripped the Socialist Party, with Prime Minister Edi Rama attempting to clarify the way in which the candidates for MPs will be divided at today's group meeting.
After intensive meetings with the political leaders of the regions, Rama communicated to them that in these elections there will be a reform of the socialist group. The SP leader underlined that no MP, man or woman, who has won a mandate in previous legislatures, will be part of the closed list.
"Anyone of you who does not agree to be on the open list should inform the political leader. The basic principle of the new list will be that no male MP who has received even one mandate from the SP will be on the closed list. Anyone who for various reasons does not want to be on the open list should say so, but say so in advance. As for the female MPs, it is heading towards finalization, but we will see how it goes. But all female MPs who have a mandate will be on the open list. The competition should be equal on the open lists, women with women and men with men. And the other thing, what have the young men and women given to be on the closed list? I have a different point of view, because these young men and women should be there to give energy, to give blood transfusion to the SP. While the others who received mandates before should be in the battle to get votes. Because in principle, the war should be waged by those who have more experience and who have received more from the voters and the SP," Rama declared.
The chief executive also explained the reason why he decided that the political leaders of the regions would run on a closed list, ensuring their seats in Parliament for the next 4 years.
According to Rama, this would create inequality in the race and shift their focus to securing personal votes, when in this race for the SP what is important is working for the team.
"Of course, there will be a lot of young men and women on the open list. I have said and expressed that political leaders should be on the open list. The problem is that this would disrupt the entire process [as it would not allow any equality of opportunity in the race and would not guarantee any kind of true political direction of the race on our part. Since political leaders would be focused on getting votes for themselves and with a more special status they would create inequality on their own and the entire team would be disoriented. The team must be compact and there must be political leaders who will guarantee that all deputies in the race have as equal a space as possible. And no political leader should get involved in preferences about who SP members and citizens should vote for," explained the SP leader. (A2 Televizion)
