Politics took a half-day break from the May 11 electoral campaign to come together and congratulate Albanians on the Easter holiday. The message of unity was conveyed by the first Head of State, Bajram Begaj, who wished Albanians more prosperity in their families.
"Since this is a day that unites all Christian faiths, whether Orthodox, Catholic, or Evangelical believers, it is a day with a very strong message, which the Archbishop just mentioned, for young people who have begun to attend masses and services. On this occasion, I want to wish them a brighter future here, in our country," said Begaj.
Parliament Speaker Elisa Spriopali did not leave politics out of the equation, stressing that divisions must be put aside when it comes to the interests of Albanians, writes A2 CNN. But the footage during the reception ceremony at the Catholic Cathedral showed something else, the parliament speaker turned her back on Sali Berisha and refused to shake hands with her political opponent.
Sali Berisha, for his part, had a very clear wish, that the next Easters will find their place differently. "To all believers, Albanian Catholics in Albania and around the world, wherever they are today, I wish you from the bottom of my heart, a happy Easter on the most important day in the history of Western civilization, the day of the resurrection of Christ the King. This day marks the resurrection, eternity, unquenchable hope. Let us wish from the bottom of our hearts that we celebrate the next Easter as our hearts desire and without the Anti-Christ in our lands," said Berisha.
In addition to the congratulations at the Catholic cathedral, politics also conveyed congratulations from the Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, since this year, the Easter of the two Christian communities coincided on the same day.
