Albania, Italy and the United Arab Emirates signed a trilateral agreement on renewable energy in Abu Dhabi. This cooperation will pave the way for the construction of an underwater energy link across the Adriatic.
For Prime Minister Edi Rama and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni, the construction of this underwater infrastructure will turn Albania into an exporter of green energy.
"A very important strategic agreement together with Italy and the United Arab Emirates for submarine cables that has been mentioned as a very important instrument, not only for the transmission of renewable energy from Albania to Italy, but also to increase Albania's capacity as a key player in the region, based on its production with 100% renewable energy," said Rama.
"An extremely important commitment, to implement a new energy interconnection to produce green energy in Albania and to export part of this energy to Italy along an underwater cable across the Adriatic Sea," said Meloni.
The head of the Albanian government believes that our country will have a more important role in terms of renewable energy. For Meloni, the launch of this partnership will open up new global opportunities.
"This initiative is a concrete step towards a truly global interconnection, from Asia to the Gulf, from North Africa to Europe, capable of supplying energy in a two-way, or bidirectional, manner," Meloni emphasized.
"Electricity production in Albania is currently 100% from renewable sources. The percentage of renewable energy in Albania's final energy demand is 44%. This makes Albania part of the countries that are at the top of the list of European countries and together with Scandinavian countries when it comes to the percentage of renewable energy," Rama declared.
Beyond the tripartite agreement, the Italian media once again focused on the friendly relationship between Edi Rama and Gorgia Meloni. The Albanian Prime Minister knelt down in front of Italian reporters to give Meloni a gift for his 48th birthday: a scarf that, according to Italian media, Rama explained was produced by an Italian entrepreneur who moved to our country and obtained Albanian citizenship.
