My political imprisonment was due to the involvement of one of the drug cartels. This is what Ervin Salianji said at a press conference from the blue headquarters hall, where he denounced the involvement of the brother of the former Minister of Interior in protecting the public interest. After leaving Fier prison where he stayed for almost 10 months, Salianji entered the DP headquarters, meeting and thanking the journalists who gave him a voice from prison. According to him, his sentence did not bring benefits to Albania but only regression.
"I thank you for your attention and messages through which I have communicated with the public for 10 months. I returned to the same hall where I made the famous denunciation of the involvement of the brother of the former Minister of the Interior. From here began the conference in defense of the public interest and I return after 10 months where I left this headquarters to surrender myself. Today, unfortunately, we are again with the same disease that Albania has, which, even with my sentence, had no benefit but regression in democracy. After more than 30 years, Albania punishes for agitation and propaganda. My political imprisonment was due to the involvement of one of the most dangerous drug cartels linked to power."
Salianji emphasized that his imprisonment was also a message to the government's opponents.
"As is happening with Prime Minister Rama's power and which stems mainly from these connections, the political sentence was to send a message to other colleagues and anyone who is against the government can suffer it even without doing anything. I was released from prison after serving my political sentence like every citizen in this Republic."
The former MP emphasizes that his case is the first in these 34 years to be convicted for a false report at a time when, according to him, he did not file a report, but a public denunciation, and that his imprisonment was carried out before the elections to isolate him politically.
"It is the first case in 34 years that an individual has been convicted of this criminal offense for false reporting when no report was made but a public denunciation. I have not had any charges of corruption or theft, but the court's decision states that I intended to overthrow the government and I managed to defeat Rama's representative in the area, I should have been isolated before the elections. We are in a situation where the personal will of an individual decides over every norm, institution and article of the constitution. The consequence that my denunciation brought must be said that a person convicted of drug trafficking was handed over to prison institutions in Italy. This is a positive consequence for society, but it has exposed the government by exposing to the citizens not only its connections with the cartels, but the political protection it gives them."
