Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha did not appear at SPAK this Monday. His lawyers cited his absence as health reasons, a viral situation that the democratic leader is going through.
The situation, which was not the same as the previous appearances at SPAK, was noticeable by the lack of his supporters in front of the building. Then, when the clock struck 10:00 and the television cameras were waiting for the arrival of Berisha's accompanying vehicle, two boys dismantled the podium prepared for him.
One of the DP lawyers was seen crossing the threshold of SPAK to inform prosecutors about the former prime minister's health situation and his inability to appear at SPAK.
Through a Facebook post, Berisha's lawyer, Genci Gjokutaj, said that due to health reasons, a viral condition, the former prime minister's appearance at SPAK was impossible. In the coming days, Berisha's defense lawyers are expected to present the relevant health reports to SPAK to legally justify the impossibility of the former prime minister's implementation of the court's decision.
While the "obligation to appear" security measure has been in effect since January, the first trial session on the merits against Sali Berisha and his co-defendants in the "Partizani" case is expected to take place at the Special Court on June 30.
The defendants in the case, accused of "corruption" and "money laundering", will be tried by a trio composed of judges Elsa Ulliri, Rudina Palloj and Bib Ndreca. (A2 Televizion)
