The number of patients with HIV/AIDS in Albania is increasing.
On the World Day against HIV-AIDS, infectious disease doctor Edmond Puca explains that it was the pandemic that created the "illusion" that the numbers were decreasing.
In a direct link with "Ditari" on A2 CNN, Puca explained that the number of diagnosed in Albania is over 1000, while the people who are currently receiving anti-retroviral therapy are around 900.
"The number of patients has been increasing. Their number has had a big trend, especially in recent years. During the pandemic, the health system, people were focused on this disease, this caused the number to be reduced in 2-3 years, but fake it. But recently it has been seen that the number of patients has been increasing."
According to the doctor, in our country there are more men than women diagnosed with this disease.
As for the treatment, infectious disease specialist Puca explained that the therapies are already innovative and that HIV/AIDS patients can have a life expectancy similar to that of a person diagnosed with a chronic disease such as Hepatitis B.
"If the patients are regular. Their life expectancy is the same as that of those with other chronic co-morbidities.” (A2 Televizion)
