Israel has one of the most sophisticated armies in the world, with a modern arsenal, thousands of military vehicles and thousands of elite soldiers. However, one of the most valued units in the ranks of the Israeli army are the dogs, which are playing an important role for the offensive.
The dogs, which are part of the "Oketz" unit, each have a specific job, some are trained to detect explosives, others to detect tunnels, as well as to track Hamas fighters.
"Daily Mail" has dedicated an article to the "Oketz" unit, whose first member was killed on October 7, in the attack carried out by Hamas. The dog named Nero saved the soldiers' lives as he discovered a secret Hamas site, but was shot dead.
"The dog entered a house for inspection along with a soldier, but as it spotted the two Hamas terrorists, a volley of gunfire poured down on it. "The soldiers realized that there were members of Hamas inside the building and managed to eliminate them, saving their lives," said an Israeli commander.
One of the occasions when the Oketz forces have provided extraordinary assistance to the Israeli army occurred in Be'ersheva when a dog managed to detect and bite a member of Hamas as he ambushed the Israeli army. He was arrested and further provided very important information for the continuation of the fighting.
Just like soldiers, dogs killed in the line of duty are sent off with military honors. (A2 Televizion)
