Brussels, 22 May 2025 - This afternoon, the 5th Intergovernmental Conference between Albania and the EU took place in Brussels, which approved the opening of accession negotiations with Albania on 8 chapters included in Cluster 3: "Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth", marking another important historical step forward in our country's negotiations for EU membership.
Present at this Conference, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Igli Hasani, reacted to this important development.
"A new cornerstone was laid with the official opening of Group Chapter 3 - Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth - during the 5th Intergovernmental Conference held in Brussels. The opening of 8 new chapters today reflects Albania's merit-based progress and is a clear indicator of how much we have achieved in a very short time", said Mr. Hasani.
He also underlines that our path towards the EU has never been clearer or more determined.
Cluster 3 includes eight areas or chapters: Chapter 10 (Digital Transformation and Media), Chapter 16 (Taxation), Chapter 17 (Economic and Monetary Policy), Chapter 19 (Social Policy and Employment), Chapter 20 (Enterprise and Industrial Policy), Chapter 25 (Science and Research), Chapter 26 (Education and Culture), Chapter 29 (Customs Union). Progress in these areas is essential to guarantee Albania's fiscal stability, industrial modernization, increased innovation, improved working conditions and participation in European initiatives in scientific research, education and digitalization.
With the opening of this group-chapter, Albania is closer to realizing the vision of Albania 2030, where the benefits and results of EU integration can be applied directly to everyday life, with better services, greater well-being and sustainable development for Albanian citizens. (A2 Televizion)
