In an interview with A2 CNN journalist Fjorela Beleshi, Foreign Minister Igli Hasani revealed details from his visit to Athens a few weeks ago, where he held discussions with his Greek counterpart, George Gerapetritis.

Hasani said that the relationship with Greece "must be curated with great care . " "It is a centuries-old relationship. It is a relationship between two peoples who have lived side by side in difficult and good moments and it is up to us to raise this relationship to the most positive levels possible and that was the reason why I decided that with the conclusion of the elections here, we would begin to open a new path of a historic commitment, and that does not depend on specific names but is always there," said Albania's chief diplomat.

Asked whether discussions have been held with the Greek side about lifting martial law or sending the maritime agreement to international courts, Hasani said that it is important that the two countries work towards a future together in the European Union, without conditions towards each other.

"I have found in the Greek Foreign Minister a serious collaborator, an open-minded colleague, a man capable of addressing many of the challenges we face together. And to create a clear perception of what we want to achieve in the future, without entering into conditions and preconditions towards each other, without creating narrowing frameworks for this effort that we want to take forward as much as possible. We are talking about two countries that think about their future together in the EU. And we must see ourselves in the framework of the European perspective. What has been agreed between the countries has been agreed between the countries. My visit to Greece was to reopen once again the very good channels of cooperation that were there but also needed the symbolism of the visits," Hasani told A2 CNN.

Regarding the pension law with Greece, a promise made during Prime Minister Edi Rama's election campaign meetings in Athens, Hasani stressed that work is being done in this direction.

"It is one of the most important points on the agenda of discussions. Undoubtedly, the number of Albanian citizens who can benefit from this agreement is very considerable, so our attention is very great to achieve something that would give these people, very good contributors to both societies, a right that they have been lacking," he declared.
