"Albania has a historic chance for EU membership", Gonzato called on

At the "Albania 2030 in the EU" meeting, organized today by the Parliament, the EU ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, said that our country has a historic opportunity to join the EU, as its integration is at the top of the advantages of the union.

" The integration of the Balkans into the EU remains at the top of the EU's priorities in the near future. The new leadership that took office on December 1 reconfirmed it quite clearly. The reunification of Europe has become an integral part of the vision for a more secure, stable and prosperous Europe. Albania has a historic opportunity, the prospect of your country becoming a member of the EU is real. The process is based on merit and that democracy and the rule of law will remain its pillars. If the candidates deliver results, the EU will be there. Institutions have the responsibility to mobilize all resources to move forward decisively ," Gonzato declared.

Undoubtedly, this process has its own challenges and for this Gonzato underlined that the reform in justice must be an irreversible process for official Tirana.

" The guiding principle should be the irreversibility of justice reform. Albania is clearly committed to strengthening the independence of magistrates and the prosecution and judicial system to consolidate accountability at all levels. It is essential that the existing institutional balances and separation of powers are fully guaranteed. "

Given that only two months ago Tirana and Brussels opened the talks on the basic chapter, for Gonzato, the Albanian institutions must provide results for a group of reforms that constitute the pillar for EU integration.

" After a year spent with the Albanian authorities, analyzing the legal framework, the EU has clearly defined who are the reforms to be achieved in these areas. Albania's main focus is to implement these reforms. This is not a process where we fill in some boxes, when the EU monitors the progress in the report it does not see only the strategies, but whether the reforms have been implemented and the measures have been executed ", the EU ambassador explained.

A message to all actors of the political class in Tirana could not be spared, as he repeated the call to come together to work for Albania to join the EU as soon as possible.

" We are here to help the financiers and to ensure that it is technically so. Reforms require mature political discussions between the parties, consultations with civil society. Parliament has a critical role in EU membership, the forum for political debate, but also the supervisory role of the government. The way is clear, we need to stay focused together. I welcome the adoption of the anti-corruption strategy and I am proud that we have helped ", underlined Gonzato. (A2 Televizion)
